This no-win situation is fucking bollox.
Tell me one whu fan who would complain about resting our core players yesterday, knowing we have a 2nd leg quarter final coming in Thursday?

It's absolutely fucking insane management by Moyes.
Zouma, Rice, Soucek, Fornaals and Antonio in particular played with 10 men last Thursday and any sensible manager would rest them
Fredericks, Diop, Noble, Kral, Benrahma and Vlasic should have started. End of story.

Hopefully we can change our mentality, but if we lose on Thursday you know who to blame.

You can always tell when we are going to lose a game.

It’s not just Fornals - nobody seems ready to go wide with the ball, take on defenders and play the full length of the pitch. Second half yesterday has given me the right HUMP

Rossal 3:24 Mon Apr 11
Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Been saying for months Fornals isnt good enough to play LW or in the 10. Yes he works hard and chips in with the odd goal.

But he lacks the quality needed to put out goals and assists youd expect from a top 6 player in those positions.

He never runs in behind, never looks to get a shot off, doesnt take players on out wide.....as Huffers said just backwards and sideways and always cutting inside. To study how we play would be very very easy in my opinion

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
There was nothing wrong with the line up in terms of individuals yesterday but its all so slow. Football is about pace more than ever.

Lanzini, Fornals, Soucek. No pace and little forward runs / passes. Soucek did at least arrive in the box late a couple of times yesterday, although unfortunately a few seconds too late.

As I've said many times, we play side to side and very rarely play a through ball or run down the centre. Easy to play against in terms of planning because of how one dimensional we are.

Someone like Lingard who is unpredictable (can play more than one style) is desperately what we need. The closest we have in terms of style is Benrahma. Isn't the same level but he does at least try it. Leads to groans because it doesn't always pay off and will mean we lost the ball. For me, I'd rather that than Fornals or Soucek passing back to Dawson who will often lose it by booting it forward.

Salah and Mane get rotated.....our boys dont

Moyes has done terrific to build a great starting 11 the last few years......but his ability to build a squad has left alot to be desired and its that issue now which fucked us yesterday.

Hopefully today they get a rocket fired up them and we get a reaction on thursday

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Oh, and agree with sold0 generally speaking. Salah and mane have played just about every game for five years, including a 120 minute AFCON final in the middle of the season, they rarely look 'tired'. Had all this in the summer with Harry kane supposedly being tired when he played like a cunt. Scored a hat trick against Ukraine in the next game and he was magically not tired all of a sudden.

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0

All fair if you look at this game in isolation. Just don't think he's done a very good job with it generally. Diop is inconsistent, yes, but has shown himself to be a capable premier league centre back on more than a few occasions. Nobles last start at Watford he was just about the best player on the pitch. And so on and so forth.
I think wholesale changes yesterday would have led to the same outcome, but there's been plenty of opportunities to freshen things up with one or two changes here and there that haven't been taken. It's more about miles in the legs than just Thursdays game, for me.

Swiss… I’m not saying that the game ain’t quicker than it was… the players are more athletes now than they ever have been… proper diets… best medical treatment they could wish for… no going out on the sauce every other day… they have everything in their favour….. like I said… if we go a goal up on Thursday let’s see how tired we are… yesterday was more a case of strolling through the game and hoping we might get something from it but hey if not the main game is Thursday… we’ve not flogged this team into the dust… our main players have played the same amount of games as the main players in Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea etc and all the other mobs in Europe… mentally they might not be there but not having they are ‘tired’….

No Moyes put himself in a no win position because he didn't sign more players in the summer and January. Primarily a striker and a left back.

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Agree with Vexed Moyes was in a no-win position. If he had put out a weak team and lost most would have complained that he should have taken note of other results at the weekend and gone flat out for a win. As it was clearly the team were not up for this game with the match on Thursday perhaps on their minds. They should be well motivated now, particularly with the cheating antics from Lyon last week, so hopefully we can expect a massive performance from all on Thursday!

Northern

The game is not the same nlw as in the 70s and 80s ffs.

Watch those games now and half the players off the ball are strolling around the park. Now it's a much more physically intensive game.

Vexed is right for once. It's not a case of having an A team 11 and a B team 11 but an A Team 22. We should have been able to field a strong team against Brentford and still rest players for Thursday. That's where Moyes has fucked up.

What are you on about? I never implied that.
I’m 55 this week and I’m not one of the so called fans that refuse to go to Stratford as it ain’t and never it will be Upton Park.
I’m not a bullshitter where any thread posted on here you appear to have a mate who’s relevant to any given subject ,for instance an Everton season ticket holder, bet there’s loads of them that live in the shit part of Southend.

Fuck me fella you already replied.... then stewed it over for 4 hours later... and bit again.... has it really got to you that I think it's Bullshit that they are tired??? Fucking chill out fella... and yeah believe it or not (you probably won't) I know a few Everton fans... funny being in the Civil Service where a lot of our business comes from is Liverpool (big HQ there) ... but anyway... I'm fucked off now I even bothered to reply to your `I couldn't sleep post'...

Like I said... lets see how `Tired' they are Thursday...

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
In hindsight it looks like a mistake to have played our first team against Brentford but if we'd chucked in a load of bench warmers and lost like we did yesterday it would be bedlam on here. It's a dilemma he's got himself into by not getting the players we need to compete in both comps.

I think we'll be up for Thursday. Just got to hope Zouma is fit or our back four looks fucking awful.

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Manuel has got it dead right. We had nothing to lose yesterday by resting our 'big hitters'. Instead, morale and energy has been sapped for and this cant be described as anything other than an awful day in every area that matters.

I havn't signed up to the 'lets batter Moyes' club but christ,i really cant begin to understand his thinking when he went flat out in his team selection yesterday, defied all fucking logic.

southbankbornnbred 11:19 Mon Apr 11
Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
But it's obvious what Moyes' dilemma is, isn't it?

He's trying to use his best players as often as possible to secure another European place through the league, given that we are still four games (against high-quality opposition) away from winning the Europa League.

Let's say the teams in front of us are Lyon, Barca and Atalanta.

Moyes is thinking he needs the backup of securing a Euro spot in the league. Hence he plays his tired first XI against Brentford, thinking it will be enough. It wasn't. Because they are exhausted.

But would you put your mortgage on Masuaku being part of a side that would land you a European spot in the league?

It's easy for us all to 'manage' this from the comfort of our sofas. But a good manager, as Moyes has proven himself to be, is trying to do it for real. And the circumstances are far from ideal because the 'quality' squad is so small.

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Was a woeful performance. Can't remember their keeper making a save.

Obviously easy to point to fatigue - It's always going to bug me that we didn't strengthen during Jan.

It appears everything is pointing towards Thursday - and rightly so, given we shouldn't finish lower than 8th - and it's our biggest game in recent history.

So why not play Kraal , Yarmolenko, Vlasic , Masuaku - Give our game changers an actual rest , when we know it's highly likely (given previous thurs/sun outings this season) we're going to turn in a laboured performance ?

I honestly don't think anybody would care - People would actually understand the thought process - rather than running the team into the ground culminating in a rather morale sapping defeat

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
well that was strange one...how we've given six points to the bees and barely make them break sweat I do not know

Felt strangely positive as I tripped down the road - 30 minutes door-to-door- couple of beers in the sun, the navigate the most over policed entrance i ve seen for a while- there must have been 60 + OB...for fucking brentford?!

the ground is wierd, sat in the home end a couple of times and from all angles its wierd. Strange that with away points selling out at 59 I thought id see only the hard core long timers, instead half of them ive never seen before and alot seemed they didnt know what an away match was about as they sat down and didnt sing or get engaged in any part of the game

failed dismally to disrupt or even impact brentford' swell known and one-trick-pony game plan.. didnt go through them, didnt go past them, just side to side to side so slowly that there was never any option ...and back we go again

Two pitiable goals, two or more bad injuries and a deeply negative week in store

we aint getting shit on Thursday . #end

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
LT - it's more a case of recognising that, in terms of building a first XI and massively improving results/training/culture and mindset, Moyes has done an amazing job.

But, yes, he has to take some blame for the failure to land certain back-ups. Although, I do know that the Daves cut him short on at least one plan to bring in a striker. So the failure to land good support is more about the Daves. They've been up to their usual parsimonious tricks.

Don’t write this team off though. Been a few occasions this season where we’ve played badly and look shot, then out of nowhere they pull out a performance and result.

Fingers crossed it’s on Thursday.

I don't know why you only put a small part of blame on Moyes, sbb.

Pretty much every reason you've put there, is down to him.
